The Story of Laguna Beach

The Story of Laguna Beach

Surrounded by mountains and a glittering ocean, Laguna Beach is Southern California’s premier seaside resort, renown for its rugged natural beauty and vibrant artistic spirit.

Its seven miles of crystal blue-green waters provide one of the finest whale and dolphin-watching areas in the world and attract a rare variety of sea birds and tide pool creatures. Our coastline is a paradise for divers, kayakers and some of the world’s most famous surfers. Nature lovers, too, can enjoy native oaks, sycamores, chaparral and wildlife on 40 miles of trails in and among the hillsides and canyons.

The natural charm of Laguna was first captured by plein air painters in the late 1800s. By 1930, the village had earned the reputation of an artists’ colony since half its 300 residents were artists. Its famous Festival of Arts, started in 1932, continues every July and August, featuring some of the best artists in Southern California, along with the Sawdust Festival and the Pageant of the Masters. An enthusiastic artistic community continues year round to produce art walks, featuring many of the 100 galleries and artists’ studios, theater, dance and concerts.

The town itself maintains its historic village atmosphere along with the latest in sophisticated shops and world class restaurants–many with views of the surf, the sand, and the breathtaking sunsets. Come relax with us and reserve one of our oceanfront vacation villas, or choose from among our specialized packages such as the Experience Health Adventure or the Romance Weekend. Experience for yourself the special charm that is found only in Laguna.
